My prayer came true…

Anita of the “West Side Musical”, tough Emel of the “Blue Night”, the mistress of the “Stone School”, Melike of the “Gunce” and incorrigible Nurcan of the “Let’s go”, the lover of Mustafa Ali…
Ayca Varlier has a passionate talent for music, theatre, TV series and cinema…
We talked about her arty life with Ayca Varlier whom we visited at the Plato of the TV series in Mugla.
You are a guest of our houses with the series, “Let’s Go”. We would like to hear from you the story of Nurcan, the character you are playing and also the process that you joined the show?
Nurcan is a woman who lives happily together with her husband and children for 23 years. As her husband becomes bankrupt in Istanbul, she leaves her social life behind and goes to a village with her family to find a new life. Even though returning to Istanbul is her greatest dream, she is a character who struggles and tries to adapt to the village life regulating her own rules.
The process that I involved in the series was very interesting. Two summers ago, I was amazed by nature and the atmosphere of the region while I was kite surfing at Taner Aykurt's school in Akyaka, Mugla. While my passion for kite surfing was increasing, I prayed that if only I played in a show in that region of Mugla. It has been just about two years that I have been living in Akyaka. My dream was to kite surf in my spare time out of shooting times. To be honest, what make me so happy are not only kite surfing but also jogging and tracking in the amazing nature…
Do you have a dream that has not come true yet? Are there any projects you plan to implement in the long term?
In 2003, I returned to my country unwillingly because of the nine eleven events. On one hand, I was sorry for not being able to take advantage of the very good opportunities after graduating from the Moscow Theatre Department of Harvard University. I was not allowed to work, but on the other hand I was upset as I was not ready to replace my life. As the saying goes, “When one door shuts another opens”, it really did. I made my career from scratch in Turkey by establishing the infrastructure abroad. Now all I want to do is to complete my unfinished dream. I am likely to take some steps on theatre projects in the coming year.
What are the things in life that you are connected with a passion?
I have lived as a free-spirited person since my childhood running after my passion. I think my life energy is connected to the genetic condition of my family. I am passionate about sports, music, acting, family and friendly relationships. I have been trying to improve my kite surfing, which has been in my life for 2 years with an indispensable passion and to improve myself.
What does Ayça Varlier do in her life apart from movies, series, and theatre and of course music?
My hobbies include exploring new music albums and genres, doing sports, reading books, watching foreign series and world cinema and playing cards.
Is there a particular character that you would like and desire to play?
Not a character I will be able to name but the bad woman character we all know... As I have not played a character like that, in the future, I would like to play a woman who has traumas in her past life and has a deep story and has to solve her life struggle with the darkness inside her.
What do you find comfortable to do in your busy life or where is Ayca Varlier feeding from?
The series “Let’s Go” and living in Akyaka are like a shot in the arm to me. Welcoming the day with the means of nature, breathing fresh air, jogging to my favorite job every day, loving my colleagues and the entire staff; I think it is one of the rare luck that one can experience in a life time. I thank God every day for being with these beauties.
And music... How much place is it occupying in your life nowadays? Is there a surprise waiting for us?
Perhaps, I am likely to make a single album in the early summer. As the shootings are intense now, I would like to take a break on theatre and film stages until the summer.
We would like to hear your words about Mugla that you have the opportunity to get to know its most unknown aspects.
I spend my remaining time in the sea, kite surfing and in the greenery in Akyaka. In the winter season, this place is very tranquil, rainy but it has a unique magnificent view. Because there is no big city traffic, I can easily arrive anywhere I want to go. The bays of Marmaris are particularly attractive. The series is shot in areas with wonderful nature around Mugla. As I step out of the set into my car and drive down from the Sakar Hill on the way to Akyaka, each time it feels like seeing the supernatural scene for the first time and I arrive home with that feeling.
